1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how the FlexEQ browser extension (“FlexEQ”, “the extension”, “we”) handles information when you use it. FlexEQ is an audio equalizer for sound played in a Chrome tab you choose.
FlexEQ is designed to process audio on your device. It does not operate backend servers for playback, equalization, or user accounts.
2. Data we process
2.1 Audio
When you press Start, FlexEQ captures the audio stream of the tab you selected (or the active tab, depending on your choice) and processes it locally using browser APIs (including an offscreen document and Web Audio). Audio is not uploaded to us or to any FlexEQ-operated server. We do not store recordings of your audio.
2.2 Settings stored on your device
FlexEQ uses Chrome’s chrome.storage.local to save preferences such as: EQ filter parameters, presets, master volume/gain, interface language, and optionally which tab you selected for capture. This data remains on your computer inside your browser profile.
2.3 Tab information
FlexEQ uses the tabs permission to list tabs in the current window and to determine which tab to associate with capture when you start processing. We do not transmit your browsing history, page contents, or URLs to external servers.
2.4 Technical permissions
tabCapture: Required so Chrome can provide the selected tab’s audio stream to the extension for local processing.offscreen: Used to run the Web Audio processing pipeline in an offscreen extension page, as supported by Manifest V3. Processing remains on-device.
3. What we do not do
- No user accounts or login inside FlexEQ.
- No analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or sale of personal data as part of this extension.
- No remote execution of extension logic from third-party servers (the extension runs code packaged with the extension).
4. Third parties
FlexEQ does not integrate third-party analytics or advertising trackers in the extension package described by this policy. Audio from websites you visit is governed by those sites’ own policies; FlexEQ only accesses the tab audio stream when you choose to start the equalizer.
5. Retention and deletion
Settings stored in chrome.storage.local persist until you remove the extension or clear extension data in Chrome (e.g. chrome://extensions → FlexEQ → Remove, or “Clear storage” where available). There are no FlexEQ cloud copies of those settings.
6. Children
FlexEQ is a general-purpose audio tool and is not directed at children under 13. If you believe we should address a specific issue, contact us at the email below.
7. Changes
We may update this policy when the extension or legal requirements change. The “Last updated” date at the top will be revised. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
